What Charlie is saying to Dean is probably the most important lesson in recovery. You need to own up your wrongs, yes, then you need to learn from them so they won’t happen again, but you also need to forgive yourself in order to recover and to move on. You can’t recover while continue hating yourself. And I truly hope Dean will get there, to own up his mistakes, to learn from them and to forgive himself and keep looking forward.
